FIRST CYCLE STUDIES

At the University of Agriculture in Krakow, a two-cycle teaching system has been introduced for full-time and extramural studies.

The first cycle lasts 3 years (six semesters) in the case of bachelor’s studies or at least 3.5 years (seven semesters) in the case of engineer’s studies and ends with writing a diploma thesis and taking a diploma examination; graduates, depending on the major, receive a bachelor's or engineer's degree. Graduates of the first-cycle studies can continue their studies in their field of choice and obtain a master's degree or a master's degree in engineering.

During full-time studies, classes are conducted daily except for Saturdays and Sundays. On the other hand, during extramural studies, classes are carried out in a system of 3-day sessions (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) organized several times (5-8) during a semester. In the case of extramural studies, some classes are conducted via the Internet (e-learning), where the students are not required to come to the University.

The studies, both full-time and extramural, are divided into semesters: a winter semester, which lasts from October till the end of January, and a summer semester, which lasts from the end of February till June. To continue studying in the next semester according to the programme of studies, the previous one must be completed. In the case of the so-called individual course of study (ITS), students decide, to some extent, on the pace at which they study and the order of completing the courses. It is a more challenging manner of getting a diploma, but it is becoming increasingly popular due to a certain margin of freedom and a sense of independence. Students determine the curriculum together with a faculty member, and the curriculum has to be approved by the dean of a given faculty. ITS students must consistently supervise the curriculum implementation on their own.

SECOND-CYCLE STUDIES

Second-cycle studies last 1.5 years (three semesters) or 2 years (four semesters), depending on the major. Obtaining a master's degree or a master's degree in engineering is contingent on writing a master's thesis and passing a diploma examination.

During full-time studies, classes are conducted daily except for Saturdays and Sundays. On the other hand, during extramural studies, classes are carried out in a system of 3-day sessions (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) organized several times (5-8) during a semester. DOCTORAL SCHOOL

 

The Doctoral School allows doctoral students to receive interdisciplinary education, obtain remarkable research skills, and achieve scientific independence in a specific scientific discipline according to the authorisations held by the University.

 

1. In the field of agricultural sciences, in the following scientific disciplines:
1. forestry;
2. agriculture and horticulture;
3. nutrition and food technology;
4. zootechnics and fisheries.
2. In the field of engineering and technical sciences, in the following scientific disciplines:
1. civil engineering and transport;
2. mechanical engineering;
3. environmental engineering, mining, and energy technology.
3. In the field of social sciences, in the scientific discipline of economics and finance.

 

Doctoral students’ education at the doctoral school lasts eight semesters. It is carried out based on the curriculum and an individual research plan, and it ends with submitting a doctoral dissertation.
